Kayak Tours

Tours offered at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm Sunset Tours. First-time kayakers and experienced paddlers alike will enjoy a unique perspective of Portland on this guided tour circumnavigating Ross Island on the Willamette River. We’ll paddle past an impressive blue heron rookery and possibly see bald eagles and osprey as we glide by Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. There is an unparalleled view of Portland’s skyline on our way back to the dock.

“The Art of Kayaking” An In-Store Seminar with Nigel Foster

Nigel Foster’s “Art of Kayaking” seminar will explore two different facets of sea kayaking: behind the scenes chart reading/interpretation, and into the scenes paddling technique.

Experience kayaking skills through Nigel Foster’s eyes with the help of his images from around the world. Learn how to interpret swell patterns and tidal current. Analyze beach profiles for easier launching and landing. See how different timing strategies for landing affect outcome. Focus on the small details in paddle blade alignment that offer a key to easy kayak control.

Nigel will also lead you through an introduction to charts and tides simplifying documents that may otherwise appear daunting. His aim is to offer you easy steps you can confidently follow.

Nigel’s latest book The Art of Kayaking contains a distillation of a lifetime of paddling experience. Here is an opportunity to have details illuminated by photographs and animated graphics to clarify the finer points and illustrate the nuances of kayaking. You will have an opportunity to ask Nigel to clarify any questions you have.

Kids Camps

Kayaking for Kids Camps, ages 10-13

5 day camp | July 20-24 and August 10-14 | $350
3 day camp | July 20-22 and August 10-12 | $225
Camps run 9:00 am – 3:00 pm each day 

Our Kids Camps introduce the basic fundamentals of kayaking and water safety. Kids have fun on the water learning kayaking skills through instruction and team-building activities. We have been running this camp for 19 years and are continually amazed at how quickly our campers learn! This camp focuses on basic kayaking strokes, directional control, safety and rescue techniques.

kidsKayaking for Kids 3-Day Camps, ages 12-15

9:00am – 1:00pm each day. This camp runs in conjunction with Portland Community College’s Summer Teen Program. Basic Strokes, directional control, rescue techniques and safety will all be covered. Register through PCC at www.pcc.edu/schedule.
2015 Dates: July 13-15 and August 3-5
